About us

History

In 2005, a small group of University of South Florida (USF) students with an interest in international health noticed that USF Health lacked a student-led interdisciplinary organization. With this, the vision for the International Health Service Collaborative (IHSC) was born. Since then, students, faculty, and professionals alike have been working together to implement sustainable health projects for underserved communities both locally and around the world, extending the collaborative to remote communities in Tampa, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, and Panama.

Mission

The mission of International Health Service Collaborative is (1) to promote sustainable projects for underserved communities at home and abroad, (2) to create a forum for interdisciplinary interaction within USF Health and the institution as a whole, and (3) to develop well-rounded health professionals.

To fulfill our mission, the executive board seeks to incorporate valuable doctrines from each USF Health discipline through interprofessional lectures and student-run educational sessions. This will empower the collaborative to put theory into practice and examine health disparities while working directly with community leaders to plan and carry out service projects and to build lifelong friendships.

Who we are

The International Health Service Collaborative has an interdisciplinary structure, hosting students, faculty, and professionals from the University of South Florida Colleges of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, Pharmacy and Physical Therapy. Our General Assembly helps to unite multiple disciplines under one goal and is crucial in the execution of our local initiatives; these same individuals are often candidates for our international projects.

The IHSC Executive Board consists of a diverse group of individuals with impressive health experiences. Many have laboratory and clinical experience, and others are even former Peace Corps volunteers. The board is elected every year after the summer trip. Each of the current Executive Board members brings unique qualities to the table. They hold office from March 2013 to May 2014. IHSC is currently under the guidance of three Faculty Advisors and are an indispensable source of information and support for the organization.

What we do

IHSC is a team of students who plan and execute sustainable health solutions in underserved populations through an evidence-based approach. It is unique in that it has an interdisciplinary structure, hosting students, faculty, and professionals from the University of South Florida Colleges of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, Pharmacy and Physical Therapy.
